The Artist painting on a Chicago rooftop
Welcome to the site of KEVIN JAMES FINNERTY
Kevin is one of Chicago's premier cityscape Artists. His city paintings adorn corporate offices and private collections throughout the city. His painting technique is that of a weathered outdoor artist setting up an easel in the dead of winter, or in the heat of mid summer. He captures that moment in time while standing on a rooftop to paint the Autumn colors of Lincoln Park, or the first snow falling upon the buildings surrounding Grant Park, to the morning summer sun casting long shadows off the monuments in Millennium Park, and the arrival of the spring flowers in and around Garfield Park Conservatory. It is in this Plaine-Air technique that Kevin creates the most vibrant compositions.
The artist received a BFA in Illustration from Northern Illinois University in 1986. After illustrating for several years, Kevin pursued his painting skills in the soft pastel medium. He is completely self-taught in the use of pastels and honed his skills to the level of achievement that goes into ever painting.
Recently, Kevin has started painting in oil to satisfy the growing demand for larger imagery in hospital and corporate settings.
